NCUI Young Scholars Award Scheme 2012

Aswe know that the year 2012 has been proclaimed as the International Year of Cooperatives by the United Nations. The NCUI being the apex organisation of Indian Cooperative Movement may identify various activities for the youths on the occasion of International year of Cooperatives 2012 as a way of promoting and sensitizing the youth towards cooperatives in the country and also raising their awareness about contributions and socio-economic development made by the Indian Cooperative Movement in the country.

In order to encourage learning about the cooperative movement among the youth of the country, the NCUI may institute a major awareness and sensitization exercise on the role of the NCUI and cooperative movement for the socio-economic development of the masses with the following objectives: 

  • Under this programme, “NCUI Young Scholar Award Scheme” will expose the youngster to an actual working and understanding of the cooperative sector 
  • It will inculcate the sense of pride in the selected once of having an opportunity to associate themselves with the prestigious cooperative organization of the country during their training.

Elegibility Criteria

All the students across the country who have completed 10 + 2 on formal education and are currently pursuing under graduate studies and should have an age of 18 years or not less than 23 years as on September, 2012 will be eligible for this scheme. 

Number of Awardees

We may have a maximum 150 scholars awarded this scholarship by the NCUI under the scheme.

Selection Procedure

Out of these150 candidates, 50 candidates may be selected through test conducted in English medium and the rest upto the maximum of 100 shall be selected on regional basis through test on vernacular medium.  This entrance test will be conducted in Hindi, English and 11 other regional languages.

Written Examination

The examination will be of objective type with multiple choices of answers and the paper will be approximately 90 minutes of duration and questions will be related to role, significance and contributions made by cooperative movement, the trend of various sectors of cooperatives, general economic and financial environment of the country. 


The selected candidates and the regional candidates will be placed at one of the nearest cooperative organizations of at least state level or branches of national level. The candidate will be required to work within the cooperative organization on project/ assignment allocated to them by the Regional/Head of the Organisation.  They will be expected to complete the same at the reasonable time with maximum of three calendar months. 

During their period of training, they will be paid a monthly consolidated stipend of Rs.7500/- per head and during their stay the selected scholars who do not have place to reside near the centre of training will be assisted with accommodation for the duration of their project. 

This will sensitize the youth to involve in the various facets during the period of the training in the cooperative organization and will give an opportunity to witness how  the cooperative business are run and what kind of decision making, governance etc. are in practice.  This will also give them an opportunity to develop second line leadership for the cooperative sector by popularize cooperative model amongst the youth.

  • Financial Management of Cooperatives
  • Office Management of Cooperatives
  • Human Resource Management of Cooperatives
  • Role of Leadership in Cooperatives
  • Role of Information technology in Cooperatives
  • Project or assignment allotted by the attached office.
